The easiest way to put your photography online is to start your own photoblog. Photoblogs are easy to update and to maintain. Back in 2003 I felt the urge to let the world see my photos and started a very simple photoblog that soon became very popular and had many visitors from around the world. It was hosted at Splinder.com, the Italian version of Motime.com.
Last year I moved to a more sophisticated service, MyExpressions.com where I have my color photoblog (photo)blogging sil. For $29.95 a year, MyExpressions offers a neat photoblogging system, 100mb of space and a lot of customizable templates. Furthermore, each account allows up to 5 users and 3 blog pages allowing you to have 3 completely separate blogs managed by up to 5 users. The MyExpressions community is a fast growing one and there are plans for an even more sophisticated version of the service in the near future.
If you have your own site you could implement a photoblog using one of the most famous free photoblog applications around: Pixelpost. It’s easy to install and to maitain and offers many useful add-ons to enrich your visitors’ visual experience. I’m using it for my black and white photoblog A C H R O M A T I C.
Another free application I would consider is PhotoStand. I’ve seen many photoblogs powered by it and from what I’ve seen it does look quite nice.
Of course there are a lot more services and/or applications you could use for your photoblog. Here is a very limited list. Some are totally free to use whether others may ask for a yearly subscription or offer also a limited free account.
- Aminus3 – Free.
- Birch – Free. A perl script that run on Apache servers.
- Shutterchance – Offers a free limited account and a Premium one.
- Blipfoto – Free. Only requirement: photos uploaded must have been taken on the same day.
Next week I’ll write about tools for setting up image galleries on your own website.

Thanks for posting these. Any reason you would go with a pay service that only gives you 100mb of space rather than one of the unlimited free services?
