Bought myself a Light Tent
March 12, 2007 by sil63
Light tents or light cubes are devices that can help you shoot still-life, macro, food or product photography in the comfort of your house, without the need of expensive, professional reflectors and softboxes.
They can help diffuse the light to soften shadows and illuminate your subjects with a soft even light.
It’s my intention to take pictures of objects or flowers and this mainly because:
-
I need to supply my image gallery at Arcangel Images, the picture library that represents me, with new images.
-
I’d like to start a portfolio or more than one whose main subjects are objects or flowers and even, why not, vegetables.
-
I like to experiment
-
I want to see what I can get from my newly bought Sigma 50mm macro EX DG
The light tent I bought on E-bay for €73,05 (shipping from UK to Italy included) is 80×80 cm. (32″ x 32″) in size. It’s completely foldable within its carrying bag and it’s supplied with a detachable front door cover incorporating a slit for the camera lens and four background cloths to cover the back and floor of the Light Tent positioned by Velcro fasteners.
Moreover, 2 removable fixing clips to conveniently hang art paper or lightweight fabric backgrounds are included along with built-in hanging loops in the roof of the tent that can be used to suspend lightweight items.
As for now I can’t afford buying pro studio lighting solutions I will use sunlight or a couple of desk work lamps with “Daylight” Bulbs.
I’ll post my ‘experiments’ here as soon as I come up with a few decent ones
