Flowers under a different light

I picked out the following photos from my archive to show how sometimes we can take shots of flowers in a way that presents them under a different light. What do I mean by different light? Simply that flowers are not only good subjects for birthday postcards, calendars or stylish still-lives. If we are curious and imaginative enough we can come across some interesting results.

I photographed this fallen flower accidentally, while at my mother’s house. It had been a really windy day and while going out on the balcony this little splash of color caught my eye. I went inside and grabbed what at the time was my first digital camera, a Canon Powershot A30 and took several shots of the flower. What really intrigued me was how the plastic fence that ran along the balcony casted its shadow on the checkered floor giving the shot an abstract look.
Spring originated during a walk in this park which
is in my hometown. I felt tired and sat on a bench to rest a while. As I was looking around I realized the grass at my feet was filled with tiny colorful flowers and daisies. After a few, I put the camera - always the above mentioned Canon Powershot A30 - directly on the ground, relying only on the camera autofocus.

Vertical flower was a happy find while taking photos at a local lake. It happened I had to get in the car to change the exhausted battery of my Nikon d70. I had parked in front of an old house surrounded by a rather messy garden. A few seconds before getting out and back to the lake I noticed this wonderful red flower on this lonely electrical pole. The contrast between the concrete of the pole and the freshness of the flower was what intrigued me the most. This shot appeared in File Magazine.
